Picton & Waikawa

The picturesque seaport township of Picton is tucked between the northern reaches of the Richmond Range and the sea at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound.

This colourful and historic port is a popular stop for cruise ships and is the transit point for the ferries that travel between Picton and Wellington, in the North Island. Picton's attractive central business district invites a leisurely stroll amongst the town's arts and craft shops, souvenir shops and art galleries, cafés and eateries. Picton also has extensive marina facilities for pleasure craft.

A short drive (3½km) from Picton, the seaside hamlet of Waikawa features a busy marina and a sheltered, sandy beach suitable for children.
