tucked between the northern reaches of the Richmond Range and the sea at the head of Queen
Charlotte Sound.
This colourful and historic port is a popular stop for cruise ships and
is the transit point for the ferries that travel between Picton and Wellington, in the
North Island. Picton's attractive central business district invites a leisurely stroll
amongst the town's arts and craft shops, souvenir shops and art galleries, cafés and
eateries. Picton also has extensive marina facilities for pleasure craft.
A short drive (3½km) from Picton, the seaside hamlet of Waikawa
features a busy marina and a sheltered, sandy beach suitable for children. |
